Technical apparel for your real life – that sentiment wouldn’t ring true if Kit and Ace’s design team hashed out details for new products over the table of an artificially-lit meeting room. Of course, some discussion has to take place in a boardroom, but the real evolution of our product is something that stems from personal observations and conversations, because if there’s something missing in our wardrobes, it’s probably missing in yours, too.
The design team travels far and wide, and any design that makes it into the fold has to hold up in new climates and foreign terrain, but it also has to hold up at home, day to day. Vancouver is a city that’s known for its lush greenery and endless nature, both of which exist thanks to a lot of rainfall (yes, even in the summer) and these year-round showers were reason enough to start masterminding the Stowaway Packable Jacket. “It rains a lot here,” design assistant Laurel Campbell says, “so we wanted a lightweight jacket that we could travel and bike with, and then be able to pack it into a tote or backpack.”
Traditional waterproof fabrics are stiff and crinkly, but the Stowaway is woven from a soft, brushed nylon-blend that boasts enough water and wind resistance to keep you dry in light showers and warm on breezy days. Flat snap fastenings at the cuffs mean you can wear them loose and turned up when it’s warmer, and closed tight when commuting to work to lock in heat and keep out moisture.
Proving that form and function can co-exist, the oversized silhouette of the Stowaway Packable Jacket feels fresh and modern – it’s a departure from the running or hiking jacket that until now you’ve taken (reluctantly) from the outdoors into the city. The jacket can be packed into either of the two zipped front pockets and attached to your bag or luggage by a copper-tone keyring. Straighten out the pouch and it doubles as a pillow when mid-air or in transit, and when it’s time to slip it back on, simply unravel, shake it out and zip it back up. It's really that easy.
